Your donations will help give cats and kittens a second chance at long happy lives. Check out Cadbury's story below to learn how your donations directly effect the cats in our care.
This litter of kittens was born late Saturday evening on Sept 21st.
Life had been pretty much eating and sleeping all week. They were very needy with mom and she hadn't had many breaks.
Their eyes were just starting to open.
They were eating and growing a lot. Getting stronger and more alert every day!!
Their ears were upright and eyes wide-open.
They loved snuggling with Mom.
Momma Sadie is only about a year old herself. She was an abandoned stray who showed up at someone's doorstep. They tried to take her in, but their other cats objected. Her rescuers called us when they realized she was pregnant.
We got Sadie off the street and about 3 weeks later, her beautiful babies were born. Sadie has been a wonderful mother - attending to their every need with love and full. attention
Tragedy struck this little family when 4 out of the 5 kittens passed away within 48 hours. Sadie had been doing a great job as a new young mother, and there was no way to see this coming.
Dr. Price at Eastwillow vet said there was nothing we could do except let nature take its course. Exact cause is unknown- could have been a viral attack or something passed to them at birth.
The surviving kitten Cadbury (pictured) was holding strong until an abscess was discovered by his anus Oct 17. Upon examination the next day, a congenital defect was discovered.
Although he was only 8 ounces in weight, emergency surgery had to be done the morning of Oct 19 for any hopes of survival.
Miraculously Cadbury made it through his surgery and was given a second chance.
Cadbury made it through the weekend and had a check-up Oct 21 first thing in the morning. Dr Price said she was recovering well so far.
Our miracle kitten is growing and starting to thrive
She had dropped down to 7.1 ounces after surgery Saturday and now has rebounded to a whopping 8.9 ounces!! (as of Oct 24)
Way to grow!
